Join us for the 2018 CWEA Percussion/Winds Instructor Summit!

The Percussion/Winds Instructor Summit is scheduled for December 8, 2018 at South Pointe High School in Rock Hill, South Carolina. This clinic offers the opportunity for instructors, designers, group directors and band directors from all levels of experience to learn new approaches and ideas to take back to their programs.

The clinic will feature sessions on sound engineering and design, program design, adjudication criteria and much more.

Clinic Schedule

9:00 AM - Registration Begins

9:15 AM - Session 1 - Designing and Teaching for A Class - This clinic, presented by Victor Perez of Dorman High School, will discuss making appropriate design choices and focus on how to build the skills necessary for a successful A class program.

10:45 AM - Session 2 - The Ins and Outs of Running a Program - This clinic will discuss different methods of approach for running a successful program. Some of the topics for discussion will include: budgeting, season timelines, recruitment and retention, roles of the instructor vs. the director, Itinerary and day of show logistics planning, working with the circuit administration and managing your group, and much more!

12:00 PM - Lunch (on your own)

1:00 PM -Session 3 - Guide to Judging and Knowing the Sheets - Presented by Judge Coordinator Mike Leitzke, this portion of the clinic discuss different ways to approach critique at events and will help you understand both your role as well as the judge's role in the discussions. This clinic will provide an overview of each of the four sheets, changes for 2019, provide insight into class expectations, how judges sample programs, and how to maximize your critique time.

2:30 PM - Session 4 - Electronics and Technology Seminar - Led by Megan Budway of Civitas Independent, Phantom Regiment, and more! This interactive clinic will offer discussion on current best practices as it relates to sound design, hardware (do I need a DI box for that?), software, and techniques (will a shotgun mic make the snares sound clean?) and much more to make your ensemble sound the best they can. There will be a Q&A at the end of this clinic.
